"Despite being in power in Mizoram as well as in the Centre, the Bru issue had ever been addressed to by the Congress, because it did not have political relevance. But, the present government is different. The decision of resolving the issue permanently reflects this government’s promise of moving ahead with everyone", the Prime Minister said in the Parliament.
The Prime Minister also held the CPIM party responsible for the plight of Bru refugees.
“Plight of the Bru refugees was pitiable. Yet, the party which ruled most parts of the Northeast for decades and the party that ruled Tripura for decades (CPIM) did nothing about this crisis. It was our Government that took the initiative to resolve this pressing problem,” he said.
The Prime Minister also branded North East region as a peaceful region which is participating in the country’s march towards progress. "The people of North East perceived that Delhi is far away in the past. In the last 5 years, however, the region came closer to the national capital. Every second day, a union minister was reaching out to the North East to supervise the development activities of the region", the Prime Minister said.
