Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and 10 others arrested by Sitapur police

NEW DELHI: Over 24 hours after keeping her at a local guest house, the Sitapur police on Tuesday arrested Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi and at least 10 others, to “prevent the commission of cognizable offences”.

NEW DELHI: Over 24 hours after keeping her at a local guest house, the Sitapur police on Tuesday arrested Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi and at least 10 others, to “prevent the commission of cognizable offences”.

Gandhi was detained on her way to meet farmers in the violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh.

She was going to meet the families of farmers who were killed in violence when she was detained on Sunday night.

The case, according to official sources, has been filed under Sections 151, 107 and 116, on a report given by the station house officer of Hargaon to the magistrate.

Gandhi has been tweeting while under detention and was also seen cleaning the room of the guesthouse where she has been detained.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi had put out a video message to PM Modi asking if he would also visit Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the protesting farmers. Gandhi has been in detention in Sitapur since Monday, after trying to make her way to the district to meet the families of the victims of the violence.
