Contraband worth Rs 27 crores seized in Manipur

Imphal, April 5, 2019:

In continuation of the remarkable crackdown against drugs in the North-East region, the Tengnoupal Battalion orbited under 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) once again apprehended drug smugglers carrying 90 kilos of World is Yours (WIY) tablets worth Rs 27 Cr at Khudengthabi village in Manipur's Tengnoupal district.

Based on specific input from a reliable source of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Imphal, regarding smuggling of contraband items through A jungle track, a party was launched. One party was kept further east of village Zommonum, another party started moving through jungle track near Kwatha junction. At about 1430 hours a party of civilians was seen moving in a drain. Upon being spotted, the party moved towards the civilians to stop them. On seeing this, the civilians started fleeing through the drain into the jungle. During the chase, three of them with seven plastic sandbags containing WIY tablets were caught.

A total of seven plastic sandbags were ascertained to be WIY tablets following which the three individuals were apprehended. The contraband items were being smuggled by Paokholen Khongsai, Phogin Mang Khongsai, and Sei Kho Len. The approximate cost of the nabbed WIY tablets is Rs 27 crores.
