NEW DELHI: The Centre confirmed the presence of the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 in 50 samples. The cases had been reported across 11 states in india, with Maharashtra having the highest number of such cases.
Meanwhile, the country has reported 48,698 cases, bringing the overall number of coronavirus infections in the country to 30,183,143 in the last 24 hours.
The death count increased to 3,94,493 with 1,183 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed
The number of active cases has dropped to 5,95,565 and currently accounts for 1.97 percent of all infections.

For the 44th day in a row, COVID-19 recoveries surpassed new cases, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from the disease to 2,91,93,085. The cases resulted in death at 1.31 percent.
While the COVID-19 recovery rate in india has increased to 96.72 percent, the weekly case positive rate has dropped to 2.97 percent.
Kerala had the most new infections with 11,546 recorded, followed by Maharashtra (9,677), Tamil Nadu (5,755), Andhra Pradesh (4,458), Karnataka (3,310), Delhi (115), and West Bengal (1,933).
Maharashtra (6,017,035), Kerala (2,865,871), Karnataka (2,826,754), Tamil Nadu (2,455,332), and Andhra Pradesh (1,871,475) are the five states with the highest cases.
