Shillong, April 19, 2020:

In a bid to provide immediate response to sick persons in the middle of the novel COVID-19 pandemic that continues to sweep across the world, the Government of Meghalaya has purchased fifteen specialized "life saving" ambulances with money received in the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

According to a report in The Shillong Times, the 15 ambulances are in Bihar and will reach the state the coming few days.

Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of the the state, took to social media to inform about this development. "25 ambulances purchased under Chief Ministers Relief Fund, made possible by contribution of everyone. I once thank all who have contributed to the CMRF. These are on their way and should be arriving in Meghalaya in the next few days", he wrote.

The administration of the state, that has reported as many as 10 cases today held a meeting of the Health department and food and civil supplies.

It may be mentioned here that yesterday, the state reported its 9th and 10th cases of the COVID-19.

Both cases are from the house of the first patient: while one is a helper another is a relative. A single death has been reported so far from Meghalaya.

A total of 50 positive cases for coronavirus have been reported in the Northeastern region including 34 from Assam, 9 from Meghalaya, two each from Manipur and Tripura and one each from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland. Two COVID-19 patients in the region (one each from Meghalaya and Assam) have died due to complications from the virus.

Yesterday, the Meghalaya Chief Minister confirmed that the condition of all the patients who have tested positive is “stable” as of now.
