Gangtok, April 21, 2020:

Sikkim, which is the only COVID-19 free state in the entire country, will continue to observe complete shutdown till May 3.

This decision was taken during an emergency meeting held today to take stock of the situation.

Now, Sikkim will continue to be in a state of complete lockdown till May 3. The restrictions will be reinforced continually, in the same manner, except for the relaxations for MGNREGA work, agriculture, permitted industries and other economy-related activities.

Moreover, all the inter-state vehicular movement shall be restricted till May 3 and educational institutions will remain closed till May 31.

In the meeting, the Sikkim Chief Minister, who chaired the meeting, stressed on the importance of Aarogya Setu App and called for mandatory use of the App by every individual for their own safety.

Earlier in the day, an optical shop and a Vodafone store were sealed by the District Collectorate for not complying with the lockdown guidelines. That the shops have been kept open when the DC was carrying out an inspection at the Market area of Gangtok in order to check the compliance of lockdown rules.

The DC, along with the team, visited Gangtok market at the MG Marg and personally took stock of the situation and sealed the shops which are not complying with the lockdown guidelines.

Union health ministry on Tuesday said that so far, there are 18,601 COVID-19 positive cases in India, of which 3,252 people have recovered, including 705 people who recovered on Monday.
