BHUBANESWAR: A severe hit of cyclonic storm Yaas has commenced landfall in Odisha this morning.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone Yaas was centered over Northwest Bay of Bengal, 40 km East of Dhamra in Odisha in the early hours of Wednesday.
The storm has commenced landfall near the north of Dhamra port and south of Balasore district in Odisha at around 9 am on Wednesday according to official reports.

It is also predicted that the Yaas will move towards the North-Northwest and cross North Odisha and West Bengal coasts to the North of Dhamra and South of Balasore during Wednesday noon as a very severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 130-140 kmph gusting to 155 kmph.
IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall over Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keojhargharh and heavy showers over Puri, Khurda, Angul, Deogarh, Sundergarh districts of Odisha as well on Wednesday.
The Airport Authority of India has notified on Tuesday that Bhubaneswar airport will remain shut till 5 am on Wednesday.
