DHARAMSALA: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has received the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine today at Zonal Hospital in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamsala.
“His Holiness the Dalai Lama receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at Zonal Hospital, Dharamsala, HP, India on March 6, 2021,” Dalai Lama tweeted.
The Dalai Lama's office expressed gratitude to the central and the Himachal Pradesh government for making the first dose of the vaccine available to the spiritual leader.

The 86- year-old was in self-quarantine since January 2020, and came out of his residence after a year.
According to report, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) had asked the central and state government to make arrangements of vaccination for the spiritual leader almost two months ago.
After being vaccinated, he requested that people come forward in large numbers to be vaccinated for the public good.
The currently active COVID-19 cases in the state is 589, 57,428 recoveries, and the death toll has stands at 997.
