DARJEELING: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has expressed his shock at the tragic landslide incident at the ITDCL labour camp at Rungpoo rail project in Mamkhola area.
"I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their lives and I am praying for the safety and early recovery of those who are in the hospital", he said.
As per the initial reports, the river stream near the camp was blocked by falling boulders for the past couple of days, and the swelling river burst and washed away the camp where the rail construction workers were living.
Our region has been witnessing heavy rains for over a month now and given the geography we live in, it is important that extreme precautions be taken to avoid damages during such disasters, Bista added.
Bista said that he is in constant touch with the railway/IRCON officials and offered his help for anything he can assist with.
