DIMAPUR: The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) has called for a total shutdown of all shops and business establishments in Nagaland's Dimapur on September 16.
The total shutdown is part of the first phase of the DCCI's agitation to protest the Nagaland government's and its machinery's inaction against multiple and rampant illegal taxation on the business community by various groups and government agencies, said DCCI president Akashe Zhimomi.
According to Zhimomi, the call for a day-long total business shutdown was made in response to a recent statement published in local media.
In its statement, the DCCI emphasised the plight of the business community as a result of multiple and rampant illegal taxation by various groups and government agencies.
He asserted that the Nagaland government has yet to take any concrete steps or provide any assurances to combat the threat.

He further stated that if the government of the day fails to address the plight of the business community, the DCCI will be forced to take more drastic measures.
Furthermore, the DCCI urged the Confederation of Nagaland Chambers of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI), Nagaland's apex traders body, and all of its district units to lend support and show solidarity to the common cause.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers' Organisation (NVCO) and Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association (NMDA) have announced their support to DCCI's call for the total closure of shops and business establishments.
In support of DCCI's call for a total shutdown of all shops and business establishments the NMDA has also announced a closure of all pharmacies and medical business establishments in Dimapur on September 16.
In a press release, the NMDA also warned that if the government did not take appropriate action, it would be forced to take its own course of action by shutting down all of its outlets indefinitely.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Medicine Dealers' Association has asked the state power department to take the necessary steps to improve the town's electricity supply, as most life-saving drugs and vaccines must be stored in refrigerators.
