Delhi CM Kejriwal appeals center to stop flights from Singapore amid COVID crisis

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has raised concerns about a new COVID  strain discovered in Singapore which he claims is detrimental to youngsters.

He advised the Centre to take immediate action including suspending flights to and from Singapore, arguing that it could "come as a third wave" in India.

“The new Corona that arrived in Singapore is thought to be particularly deadly for children and it is expected to arrive in India in a third wave. My request to the central government is as follows: 1. Air flights to Singapore should be suspended immediately. 2. Vaccine options should be prioritised for children as well," he tweeted in Hindi.

The chief minister's tweet comes as fears grow about a third wave which many experts believe will target children.

According to the specialists, the elderly were the ones who were most impacted in the first wave while the younger individuals were infected in the second wave.

CM Kejriwal also offered Rs.50,000 ex-gratia payment to families in the national capital who had lost a family member in the battle against COVID-19.

Moreover, to the ex-gratia, CM Kejriwal provided a monthly pension of Rs.2,500 for households whose single breadwinner died of the devastating viral disease.
