NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that less than 100 ICU beds left in Delhi hospitals and the condition is getting worse by the day. He said he also spoke with Union home minister Amit Shah this morning and emphasised the need for more beds.

The chief minister said that about 25,500 new COVID-19 cases have been registered in the state with the positivity rate increasing to nearly 30% in the last 24 hours.

He also stated that the Delhi government has requested assistance from the Centre in ensuring sufficient beds and oxygen supply for COVID-19 patients.

"We are in constant contact with the Centre and receive assistance from it," he said.

Hospital beds and oxygen for patients are rapidly depleting in the city, according to the chief minister, due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 infections.

He suggested that the Centre set aside at least 7,000 of the 10,000 beds in Delhi hospitals as COVID beds and ensure an immediate supply of oxygen.

The Delhi government will construct 6,000 beds at the Yamuna Sports Complex, Radha Swami Satsang Beas premises, and schools in the next 2-3 days. It is also putting together high-flow oxygen beds for the patients, said CM Kejriwal.

Furthermore, the government of India has written to all central ministries and public sector companies (PSUs) under them to dedicate their hospital beds for #COVID19 Management in States/UTs.
