Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh inaugurated a Grid connected rooftop solar power plant at office premise of Khoisnam Leikai Youth Development Committee at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai in Imphal on Thursday. This is the second power plant which has been installed by Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA), as a part of the ongoing solar energy generation project jointly undertaking with Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL).
Speaking at the inaugural function, Deputy Chief Minister said, power supply in the state has been improving for the last four years. He said, power generation capacity has to be enhanced in the state using solar power too. He also said that roof top solar power plant is an ambitious project and under this project almost all places in Uripok A/C will be covered.
Community Halls, Clubs, River banks and other Public places will be covered in the first phase and it will be completed latest by 30th of June this year, he added.
Director, MANIREDA, Shri L. Manglem Singh said, energy consumption and its rate have been increasing day by day. He said, under the Manipur State Solar rooftop Policy, individuals can apply for rooftop solar power plant through MANIREDA. He said, under the policy, the power generated by the plant can be used and also the excess power can be sold to MSPDCL. It will generate revenue as well.
