MUMBAI: Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on Saturdayfined Rs 12 lakh for code of conduct breach after his team lost badly to Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2021.
The IPL's organisers took note of matches that went past their scheduled end times in previous seasons and made sure that strict rules on over-rates were put in place.

An official release from IPL said: “Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
According to the new IPL rules, each team must complete an inning in 90 minutes, including two two-and-a-half minute strategic time-outs. The over rate must be 14.1 overs per hour.

With the exception of Dwayne Bravo, none of the other CSK bowlers allowed less than 7 runs per over. Dhawan scored 85 runs off 54 balls, while Shaw smashed 72 runs off 38 balls.
In the late evening at the Wankhede Stadium, MS Dhoni and the CSK bowlers struggled with the dew. Dhoni emphasised the importance of the dew, stating that teams batting first in Mumbai this season should aim for a score of at least 200.
