Dimapur Nodal Officer pleas churches and NGOs to help poor COVID patients

DIMAPUR: Y Kikheto Sema, the Nodal Officer for Dimapur Covid activities, today appealed to churches, NGOs and other organisations to bear the food costs of poor COVID-19 positive inmates at the COVID care centre in the New DC complex at Chumukedima who do not have access to home isolation.

Sema made the appeal after witnessing the plight of the 33 Covid positive inmates at the facility, who are mostly poor migrant workers, including Naga people and are assisting Naga families as servants.

He went to the Covid care centre with Dimapur commissioner of police Rothihu Tetseo and additional deputy commissioner Athoke Aye to assess its operations.

"Return to the shovel and invest in a teaspoon. This is the best place for us to invest as missionaries", according to Sema.

Prayer alone will not improve but prayer combined with work will, he opined.

The inmates of the COVID care centre in Chumukedima are being cared for by Team Dimapur, led by Sema, who is providing Rs. 350 per head per day.

Anyone willing to assist them should contact the Dimapur District Task Force, he said.

The team also paid a visit to the Medziphema Community Health Centre, where advisor Zhaleo Rio was seen spreading awareness and encouraging people to take advantage of the government-provided Covid vaccine.

According to Sema, since Dimapur is Nagaland's entry point, all visitors/returnees are screened and the positive ones are held here while those with negative Covid status are sent to their final destination.

As a result, he stated Dimapur is home to 61 percent of the state's COVID positive cases.

Sema urged the citizens of Niuland not to travel to Dimapur town unless it was an absolute necessity.
