Dimapur Police arrest NSCN-YA men among 4 extortionists; arms recovered

DIMAPUR: Dimapur police arrested four persons on charges of extortion from different locations here yesterday, a delayed police press release said today.

Two NSCN (YA) cadres -- self-styled Lt Meyong Konyak, 36, and self-styled Sgt Major Imkong Akum, 30 --were arrested while extorting money in Walford area. An amount of Rs 25,000, a .32 pistol with four live rounds, an extortion slip and two mobile handsets were seized from their possession. A case has been registered with East Police Station, Dimapur.

One Abdul Ali, 19, was arrested on charges of extorting money from vegetable transporters in Burma Camp junction. A sum of Rs 5000 and three extortion slips was seized from his possession. A case has been registered with East Police Station, Dimapur in this connection.

In another incident, one Kiheto Zhimo, 41, was arrested on charges of extorting money from drivers at Khermahal Tata parking area as ‘NNC’ vehicle yearly tax. Altogether 20 extortion slips were seized from his possession. A case has been registered with West Police Station, Dimapur in this regard.
