DIMAPUR: The Dimasa Public Organization Nagaland today appealed to the Assam and central governments that the Dimasas in Karbi Anglong district be made equal stakeholder in deciding the fate of the district while finding any political solution.
It also urged both the governments to take note of the non-Karbi indigenous tribal people in the district and see that their status remains equal in the matter of rights and privileges.
Welcoming the initiative of the Assam government and the Government of India to sign a peace accord with six outfits of the district, the organisation, in a release issued by its president K Naben, said the Dimasa tribe, with a population approximately 60,000, who lives in 151-odd villages in the district and co-existed with the Karbis and others from time immemorial should not be discounted.
It said as per medieval history, a big portion of the district of Karbi Anglong was under the suzerainty of the Dimasa Kachari kingdom. It added that there exists a large portion of land traditionally owned by the Dimasas in the district which should not be bifurcated.
