NEW DELHI: The price of Defense Research and Development Organization’s (DRDO) 2DG drug for the treatment of COVID-19 has been fixed at Rs 990 per sachet by Dr Reddy’s Lab.
The central and state government hospitals would be provided with the medicine at a discounted price.
Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier informed that 10,000 sachets of the drug will be available in the market from May 27.
The first batch of the drug will be available only in AIIMS, Armed Forces Hospitals and DRDO hospitals. Whereas, it will be available in other hospitals from June.
DRDO Chairperson G Satheesh Reddy had said that 2DG should work against various strains of the COVID-19 virus.
“With the support of DRDO and in the leadership of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, this (anti-COVID drug 2DG) may be our first indigenous research-based outcome to fight against COVID-19. It will reduce recovery time and oxygen dependency”, said Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had earlier said.
This anti-COVID drug comes in a sachet in powder form and has to be consumed orally by dissolving it in water.
The drug is claimed to accumulate in the virus-infected cells and prevent the virus growth by stopping viral synthesis and energy production.
