The train’s engine hit the jumbo when it was trying to cross the railway tracks in the jungle. Videos of the critically injured elephant were soon found to be circulating on social media platforms.
The videos showed the jumbo’s painful accident. It was seen dragging itself out of the train track after the engine hit it from behind. The wounded elephant was struggling to get out of the railway track.
75741 SGUJ-DBB (Siliguri-Dhubri) Intercity Express’ engine was also severely damaged after clashing with the elephant. The Driver of the train was admitted to the Alipurduar Railway hospital in an injured state.
While he was declared out of danger, the elephant died due to the severe injuries caused in the accident.
It is to be mentioned here that the Banarhat-Nagrakata rail route passes through a major elephant corridor and trains plying on the tracks have had a history of colliding with jumbos.
