GUWAHATI: A misleading piece of information has been doing rounds on social media claiming that all the vaccinated people will be dead within two years.
The name of a French Nobel Laureate has also been misleadingly attributed to the information. It further claims that "there is no chance of survival for people who have recieved any form of the vaccine."
Meghalaya Police took to Twitter to alert the people about this fake news.
"A false and misleading claim about #COVID19 vaccines has been doing rounds on Social Media, causing people to panic. We request citizens not to share unverified claims and Fake forwards", the tweet read.
The department also urged the people to verify and report any kind of fake news by visting their portal.
Assam police too joined and urged the citizens to not promote unverified information.
"A misleading quote attributed to a French Nobel Laureate about Vaccines is being shared on Social Media with a false context. We request citizens to not promote these unverified forwards. Remember, Misinformation can be as deadly as the virus itself", tweeted Assam Police.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has been accompanied by a large share of misleading and false information, especially on social media.
As the world is already battling with COVID induced fears, depression and chaos; such misleading information related to the virus or vaccination results in more anarchy.
