CHANDIGARH: A female traffic police constable from Chandigarh has gone viral after she was seen holding her baby and regulating traffic

The cop (name withheld) was seen standing, baby in hand, at the Sector 15/16/23/34 intersection.

The female traffic cop was on six-month maternity leave and had resumed her duty on March 3, 2021.

She later revealed to the media that there was no one at her home to look after her son who was born prematurely as her husband and in-laws were in Mahendragarh, located 318 kilometers away from Chandigarh city.

After joining her duty, for the first two days, she was given duties near her residence after her request to do so. However, she was then tasked with regulating traffic at the Sector 15/23 roundabout, which was very far away from my residence.

"I got late and received a call from the Traffic Police Lines, Sector 29. Duty is first for me, but I also cannot ignore my child. So, I took my child to Traffic Lines and later went to the duty point. My request for shifting to a lighter duty point was accepted by the SSP (traffic),” said the constable said.

Although this incident took place earlier in the month, it continues to reach a larger audience each day.

Recently, a clip of the female constable was shared by popular page 'Nagaland Page', leaving the netizens awestruck.

"I salute her for her determination and loyalty towards her commitment. ❤️🙏🏻," wrote one user, while another said, "Hats off for such a responsible and caring Mom."

Some netizens, however, chose not to look at the bright side and questioned why the rest of the family was not there to take care of the newborn.

"Irresponsible family! Where is her husband & in laws? How could they leave her and the baby alone in this condition? It is not safe for the baby at this age & that too prematurely born to be on the road!", wrote a user, slamming the girl's family.
