Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport (MBB) Airport in Agartala, which has been recently enlisted among the very few international airports in the country, is all set to witness a massive upgradation, Executive Director of Airport Authority of India Sanjeev Jindal said today. “This is perhaps for the first time that a full body scanner will be installed in this airport in the North East region", Jindal added.
In an exclusive interaction with this reporter in the sidelines of an AAI programme, he said that the Agartala Airport is going to be the most modern airport in the North East region in terms of technology.
"The new terminal building of the airport, which is under construction, will be the most up to date building of its kind in the entire North East. World’s best technology is being used to make this airport an international standard airport” Jindal said, adding that all these measures would lead to hassle free passenger movement.
The airport authority is also working wholeheartedly to put impetus on the issue of gender equality. Jindal said that they were also trying to link the transgender community with the common day-to-day life with their equality initiative.
"Apart from the regular course of work, the airport authorities are also trying to encourage underprivileged and unnoticed sections of the society too. We have taken up an equality project under which transgender are being given opportunities to explore normal way of life. To ensure that we hold awareness campaigns in the airport with our stakeholders to offer employment to TGTs as per their qualification and professional skills as we are holding today here in Agartala, he added.
Notably AAI has already recruited one TGT volunteer in “May I Help You Section” at Imphal airport. A TGT lawyer has been also empanelled to look after the legal matters of Imphal airport only recently. Apart from the scanner, smart galleries and kiosks are also to be installed in the Airport to facilitate the tourists.
