Imphal, April 30, 2019:

In a recent incident, at least four tourists are feared to be dead when their boat capsized in Maphou Dam reservoir in a storm carrying the tourists on Sunday evening in Ukhrul district.

The reports came in after one person was reported to be missing when his boat capsized in an Imphal river in Bishnupur district on Monday.

As per reports, a 62-year-old man was drowned after his boat sank. A search operation is underway.

On the other hand, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had joined the search operation to trace the missing three persons since Sunday.

The trio - two siblings and a girl relative - were among a 12 member picnic party at the dam site when their boat capsized. A team of divers from NDRF from Guwahati joined state police and personnel of the state fire service.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh today morning banned unauthorized local made boats at tourist spots across the state with immediate effect.

Addressing the media, the CM said that government has decided to ban unauthorized local made boats by the tourists visiting lakes and other water bodies at a state-recognized tourist sites including the Loktak Lake.

The chief minister also said that state government will also request the Centre to station a team of NDRF in the state.
