Gas explosion kills at least 12 in Central China

At least 12 people were killed and more than 100  injured in a massive gas explosion in Central China on Sunday morning.

HONG KONG: At least 12 people were killed and more than 100  injured in a massive gas explosion in Central China on Sunday morning.

Reportedly, the blast took place at about 6:30 am local time in Shiyan city.

After the explosion, about 150 people were evacuated. Out of those 150, 37 people were severely injured in the deadly explosion.

Reportedly, the explosion was caused by a gas pipe leakage.

An entire food market collapsed due to the explosion as seen in the footage from CCTC cameras. The footage shows the wreckage and shattered glass falling on the first floor of the collapsed building where people were buying groceries and having breakfast.

Reportedly, the city’s municipal office informed that several people were trapped in the market area after the explosion.

Images and video footage circulating on social media platforms showed rescue workers working through the wreckage of flattened houses.
