Gold worth Rs. 80.62 lakhs seized in Manipur

Imphal, May 17, 2019:

The anti-smuggling unit of Imphal customs on Friday seized 15 gold biscuits concealed in a carry bag from a person traveling in a Maruti Omni Van through the Imphal Bazar area in Manipur.

The seized gold weighs 2.49 kg and is valued at nearly Rs. 80.62 lakhs.

It is to be mentioned that on Tuesday, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized gold bars worth nearly Rs 8 crores in Manipur. It was smuggled into India from Myanmar, and six persons were arrested for allegedly being a part of the smuggling racket which was allegedly smuggled into India from Myanmar through the porous Indo-Myanmar border at Moreh in Manipur.
