Minister for Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over the award at the Kayakalp Award presentation and ceremonial distribution of financial assistance in Guwahati on April 8.
“I was elated and also taken aback when Kalinagar BPHC’s name was announced for the best block programme management unit award, as the district lags behind in key health indicators compared to other districts of the State. We feel honoured to have received the award,” said Joint Director, Health Services, Hailakandi, Dr. Avijit Basu.
Dr. Basu further said the award will go a long way in boosting the morale of the health functionaries to work conscientiously and assiduously for improving upon the key parameters in the health sector of the district. The Kalinagar BPHC has been selected as the best block programme management unit among 149 BPHCs in Assam.
The BPHC has been selected for the award for its remarkable achievements on key health parameters for the year 2017-18. It registered 84 per cent entry of highest number of personal phone numbers of pregnant women within three months of their registration coupled with 34 per cent registration of highest number of high risk pregnant women in the MCTP portal as per HMIS report. That is not all. The BPHC registered a record 94 per cent for highest number of institutional delivery and 92.35 percent in immunisation of infants in the age group of 0-1. On top of it all is the fact that the BPHC did not account for a single maternal death.
The Kalinagar BPHC has seven sub centres under its ambit catering to around 44,000 rural populace, has on its roll a Sub divisional Medical and Health Officer, two doctors, one Block Programme Assistant and one Block Programme Manager. There are two Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram teams for child health screening and early intervention services in schools. The BPHC is staffed by 19 ANM, 4 GNM, 43 ASHA workers and 4 ASHA supervisors for outreach services such as immunisation, basic curative care services, maternal and child health services and preventive services.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Adil Khan has extended his heartiest congratulation to the doctors, para-medical staff and other frontline workers of Kalinagar BPHC for the commendable work for which it was adjudged the best block programme management unit of the State.
