Heavy Snowfall Leads to Closing of North Sikkim and Changu Roads

Gangtok, January 9, 2020:

Heavy snowfall has led to the closing down of roads in North Sikkim and Changu areas in Sikkim by the local authorities, fearing mishaps.

Due to extreme cold and snowfall over the past few days, several areas have been closed down, which were otherwise open to tourists.

Tourist sites like Lake Tsango, Nathu La in West Sikkim, Lachung and many more areas have been shut owing to heavy snowfall and severe cold.

Although there have been no reports of tourists being stranded in snow, pictures reveal the extremely cold temperatures.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more snowfall for the next few days in parts of Sikkim, especially the North and East districts.
