Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits GMCH Hospital to Get 'First-hand Understanding' of Problems

Guwahati, June 27, 2019:

Assam Finance Minister and Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday visited the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) to get a 'first hand understanding' of the problems faced by patients in the Government hospital. The highly proactive Minister was also accompanied by Principal Secretary Samir Sinha.

The Assam Minister also announced this via his official Twitter handle, where he wrote: "On June 27, from 9-30 am to 2 pm, entire team of Health Department including myself and Principal Secretary Samir Sinha will spend in GMCH to get first-hand understanding of problems faced by patients, faculty members and administration."

A video of the Assam BJP leading interacting with some patients was also shared on his official Facebook page.

It may be mentioned that Assam has emerged as one of the most-improved states in the country when it comes to health, as per the rankings released by the NITI Aayog.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Himanta Biswa had written: "Heartening to find Assam registering significant gains in healthcare delivery as per latest NITI Aayog Health Index of States. Assam became one of the most improved states in health with 4.8 points increase. Since 2018, our overall rank improved from 16 to 15 amongst large states."

Kerala has topped all other states in the country in terms of health performance, according to health index scores in a report by NITI Aayog.

As per the report, Kerala had an overall score of 74.01, with Andhra Pradesh is second at 65.13.

The states are broadly grouped into three: larger and smaller states and union territories.
