In connection with the 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' (IDADAIT), as well as observation of the People's Day (Meeyamgee Numit) in Manipur, the Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) is launching a 5 day-long Street Corner Meeting and Poster Campaign at different locations of the state.
Launching the campaign from Konung Mamang Pureiroma Khongnang Makhong in Imphal East district Hijam Priyokumar, President, CADA said that the Street Corner Meeting and Poster campaign will be covered both hill and plain areas. The campaign concludes on June 26.
Manipur police, to support the campaign and observation, conducted a mass liquor drive at Thoubal Bazaar and its adjoining areas and claimed to have arrested three alleged smugglers with the seizure of illicit items worth Rs 2 lakhs, Superintendent of Police of Thoubal district, S Ibomcha said.
Arrests and seizure were made as a part of an immediate action taken up by Thoubal District Police to curb the menace of drugs and liquor in connection with the People's Day (Meeyamgee Numit) held on Thursday at District Headquarters Thoubal, the SP Dr Ibomcha who supervised the drive told this correspondent on Friday.
The arrested persons namely, Soibam Ibotomba Alias Bokajan (58), Soibam Ranjan (55) and Soibam Sachi (51), all the residents of Thoubal bazaar along with the seized items were later handed over to the state Excise department for further actions, the SP said.
A large quantity of alcohol was seized from the suspects.
