NEW DELHI: India has made 10-day quarantine for United Kingdom passengers mandatory irrespective of their vaccination status after several warnings of “reciprocal action” against the UK's rigid vaccine travel norms.

All passengers flying from the United Kingdom to India must now have a negative RT-PCR test and must stay in quarantine for ten days after arriving in India.

This decision comes after India continued to work with the UK to recognise Covishield as a legitimate anti-Covid vaccination after new UK travel restrictions made quarantine and a negative Covid-19 test essential for Indian travellers.

From October 4, all UK nationals arriving in India from the UK, irrespective of their vaccination status, will have to undertake the following measures:

Pre-departure Covid-19 RT-PRC test within 72 hours before travel

A. Covid-19 RT-PCR test on arrival at airport

B. Covid-19 RT-PCR test on Day 8 after arrival

C. Mandatory quarantine at home or in the destination address for 10 days after arrival in India

The home ministry and civil aviation ministry will be taking steps to implement the new measures.

In the last week of September, the United Kingdom announced modifications to its travel and quarantine restrictions. The UK's new international travel regulations effectively labelled fully vaccinated Indians as "unvaccinated," requiring them to quarantine for ten days upon the arrival.
