NEW DELHI: As hospitals across the country fall short to accommodate patients due to a surge in coronavirus infections, the Ministry of Railways has deployed nearly 4,000 isolation coaches with nearly 64,000 beds in many states.

However, 191 coaches with a bed capacity of 2,990 beds have been deployed for COVID care across the country over the last two weeks.

"169 Covid Care Coaches in use in different parts of India now," Tweeted Ministry of Railways.

 

According to a statement of the national transporter, they have received 103 admissions with 64 patients currently availing the services currently.

Isolation coaches are currently being deployed at Nandrubar in Maharashtra, currently, 58 patients are utilising the facility, according to the Railways.

Up till now, 85 admissions have been registered, with patients being discharged by the state health authorities. There are still 330 beds left.

According to the latest data, 13 admissions and one discharge resulted in Bhopal, where 20 coaches are deployed. This facility has a total capacity of 280 beds.

The Railways in Delhi have met the government's full demand for 75 Covid care coaches with a total of 1,200 beds.

At Shakurbasti station, there are 50 coaches and at Anand Vihar station, there are 25 coaches. As of date, five admissions had been registered. There are still 1,196 beds available.

The Ratlam Division of the Western Railway has deployed 22 coaches with a capacity of 320 beds at Tihi station near Indore in response to the Madhya Pradesh government's demand for two coaches.

According to the latest reports, the use of these services in the aforementioned states totals 103 admissions with 39 patients discharged.

The isolation coaches are currently being availed by 64 COVID-19 patients.
