Guwahati, January 21, 2019:

Eight Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) members, along with representatives from other regional parties and tribal civil societies partook in a crucial meeting at Guwahati on Tuesday. The leaders had met a five-member panel of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the 125th constitutional amendment.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, IPFT supremo and revenue minister NC Debbarma said that the IPFT delegation had placed a batch of demands pertaining to offer more autonomy to the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Autonomous Area District Council).

“The 125th amendment of the Indian Constitution deals with the ADC areas. Our leaders who have reached Guwahati have some specific demands, some which have been already granted by the state government...” he said.

The first and foremost demand, he said, is to change the nomenclature of the ADC. It will be renamed in Territorial Council. Some major recommendations have been forwarded from the side of government already, the IPFT supremo informed.

"Other demands included an increase in seats of the ADC areas from 30 to 50, which has been already passed in the State Assembly, so in all likelihood, it shall be granted. We also plead for joint finance commission for ADC and state, conversion of ADC townships into Municipal councils, and many more", Debbarma said over the phone.
