NEW DELHI: The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will feature 10 teams.
The Governing Council of the IPL on Tuesday confirmed that two new teams for the tournament will be announced on October 25.
The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League met on Tuesday and announced that a day after the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup encounter, two new IPL teams would be announced.
There are quite a few stakeholders for the new IPL teams.
Some of the big business houses such as the Adani group and the RPG Sanjeev Goenka group had shown interest earlier.
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow could be the venue choices for the franchises.
The only other time IPL had 10 teams was in 2011 with Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors India joining the fray.
The experiment lasted just one season which contained 74 games as the teams were divided into groups of five each where they played one another twice and each team from the other group once.
Meanwhile, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the deadline, making ITT documents available for purchase till 10th October.
The deadline was previously on October 5.
The board would answer the queries till September 29 and the auction for the teams, which was to be held on October 17, will now take place in Dubai on October 25.
