Islamic Centre of India issues COVID guidelines for Ramadan

NEW DELHI: The Islamic Centre of India has released an advisory to be followed during Ramadan in view of the surge in COVID-19.

The alert comes as India has experiencing a fresh wave of COVID-19. After the United States and Brazil, India is the third worst-affected country by the pandemic so far.

With the rise in coronavirus cases, the Islamic Centre of India has advised that all COVID-19 protocols be strictly followed. Ramadan starts from Wednesday.

Citing that every Muslim is required to fast during Ramadan, the guidelines say not more than 100 people should congregate in any mosque at any given time.

In mosques, just one and a half paragraphs of Tarawih should be recited.

All those who offer namaz should return homes before night curfew starts in those places where such measures are in force.

Everyone should wear mask and maintain social distance in the mosques.

During ‘sehri' (wee hours meal time), loudspeakers should not be used to wake people up. ‘Iftar’ should not be attended by more than 100 people.

India has set a new record of daily COVID-19 cases with 1.52 lakh infections over the past 24 hours. This is the fourth time in five days when India reported over one lakh new COVID-19 cases.

There are currently over 1.3 crore COVID-19 cases in the country. Over 16,764 people have died as a result of the outbreak, with 780 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The new COVID-19 spike is much steeper than the one last year.

To stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, several states have imposed new restrictions.
