Bengal labour minister Jakir Hossain hurt in bomb attack

MURSHIDABAD: Bengal labour minister Jakir Hossain was attacked with crude bombs on Wednesday.

 

Some unidentified people hurled crude bombs at the minister in Murshidabad, while he was walking towards Nimtita Railway station to board the train for Kolkata.

 

He sustained injuries on one hand and one leg.

 

The minister is undergoing treatment at the Murshidabad Medical College. His condition is now stable and out of danger, doctor said.

 

According to railway officials, the attack seems to be the result of a political dispute involving the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

“The reason behind the incident may be either an internal political clash between TMC cadres or between the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the ruling party. The resulting disruption can interrupt the operations of the train and contribute to discomfort for the general public, an official was quoted to the media.

 

It is to be mention that, an official said, in 2017¸ Hossain himself had filed a police complaint against two TMC members who threatened him with death.

 

West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) takes over the case.

 

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar termed the attack on Jakir Hossain "reprehensible" and said that its time for the West Bengal Home administration and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to act fast as per law.

 

There is no place for violence in a democracy, he added.
