TOKYO: Japan is likely to declare a state emergency for Tokyo to contain the spread of COVID-19 infections around 2 weeks before the commencement of the game.

.Reportedly,  Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said his government is planning on adopting news measures to take the ultimate decision on determining whether spectators can be allowed or not.

Medical experts have suggested to conduct the game without spectators as that would reduce the risk of fueling COVID-19 cases among the people.

Reportedly, oversees spectators have already been banned. Domestic spectators have been fixed at 50% capacity up to 10,000 people to prevent the spread of infection.

The discussions on the issue has been going on since months. Reportedly, one of the ruling party source said 'having no spectators is now unavoidable'.

According to a report, the restrictions on the spectators would be decided considering the COVID scenario and and other relevant measures.

Japan has not been severely impacted by the pandemic compared to other countries. However, it had recorded 800,000 cases and nearly 15,000 deaths.
