GUWAHATI: The Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) has expressed concern over a woman scribe of a vernacular daily being abused by press meet convenors at Gauhati Press Club here during a formal press conference on Saturday.

The JFC has demanded exemplary punishment to accused for their verbal and physical abuses.

“It is shocking that an attending reporter can be subjected to ill treatments in a formal press meet organised at the press club premises. All sensitive and responsible members of the press club must stand united against the offense,” said a statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria. The victim has lodged a complaint with Panbazar all women police station. Police has already summoned the accused for questioning. The JFA has urged state police chief Bhaskar Jyoti Mahnata to intervene and take punitive action against the accused.
