Agartala, November 16, 2019:

Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi took oath as a new Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, in the 'Durbar Hall' of Raj Bhawan in capital city Agartala. The oath of office to the new chief justice administered by the governor Ramesh Baish in a special ceremony at 11 am, on Saturday.

Judges of the High Court in Tripura, eight colleagues of Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi, his family members, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and his cabinet colleagues, as well as Tripura government officials, were present during the swearing ceremony of Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi.

Official sources said that this is the first time that so many High Court judges have come to Tripura to see a colleague being sworn in as the Chief Justice of the HC in Tripura.

By being sworn in, Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi became the fifth Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura.

Earlier, he was the senior most judge of Bombay High Court. Supreme Court collegiums appointed him as the Chief Justice of the apex Court in Tripura, after Sanjay Karole was transferred to the Jharkhand High Court from High Court of Tripura.
