NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Sports Kiren Rijiju Friday launched the Central Athlete Injury Management System (CAIMS), to provide world-class treatment and rehabilitation to elite athletes who get injured while competing or training.

SKS Marya, Dinshaw Pardiwala, BV Srinivas and Shrikant Iyengar are among the notable top-of-the-line professionals on CAIMS' core committee.

CAIMS strives to give sports injury management support to athletes in their geographical area.

It is expected to aid in the standardisation of injury treatment protocols for athletes all around the country.

The Centralised Athlete Injury Management System (CAIMS) seeks to give timely information on injury prevention, diagnosis and high-quality treatment and rehabilitation to athletes, as well as to keep track of their injuries using an online athlete management system.

This system, which will be operated by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in partnership with the country's top medical specialists, would be applied to the developing group of athletes for the 2024 Paris Olympics first, before being expanded to other athletes later.

"I've seen athletes whose careers have been harmed or cut short as a result of delayed or improper treatment of even minor ailments. Treatment for some ailments is not available in our nation, therefore athletes will have to travel abroad. As a result, this is a modest beginning to address that" Rijiju stated in an online event.

He further added that the sports science in India is still in its infancy and has to be developed.
