Mizoram’s first medical college was inaugurated by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla at Falkawn on Tuesday.
The Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER) will start operating from next week with about 73 students. A referral hospital will also be there at the medical college.
The college has been set up by the Mizoram government with assistance from the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Inaugurating the medical college, the Chief Minister termed it as a “great gift from God”.
He hoped the medical college would bring benefit the people of the State.
He said the setting up of the medical college had been possible because Mizoram is the most peaceful state in the country.
MIMER will have an initial intake capacity of 100 students, out which 70 are reserved for the State while 15 seats are reserved under Central quota and NRIs. At present 73 students – 62 under the State quota and 11 under NRI quota – have been admitted through NEET.
