DIMAPUR: Pakon Phom, the additional deputy commissioner of Tizit sub-division today clamped prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC under Mon district from 6 am on Thursday.

In an order today, Phom said a land dispute between Jaboka and Yannu village over the Konhoa area occurred on Wednesday resulting in damage to paddy fields, burning of shacks, huts, and cutting down of plantations, crops and trees.

The order said there are sufficient grounds for the promulgation of the prohibitory order for maintaining public safety, peace and tranquility in the Tizit sub-division.

As per the order, a gathering of more than five persons in public or private places, movement of public and vehicular movement of non-essential nature, including passenger vehicles, have been prohibited till further order.

However, district administration, police, paramilitary forces, a magistrate on duty, doctors and medical staff, and persons engaged in emergency services have been exempted. All movement of essential commodities has also been exempted.

Violation of the order will be liable for punishment under Section 188 of the IPC, the official order said.

According to reports, a group of around 500 to 600 people from nearby villages reportedly attacked Yannu village early Wednesday morning and destroyed plantations and field huts. There was no report of any casualty.
