IMPHAL: The End of an Era has been witnessed in Manipur's Comedy world as Laishram Kunjaraj -- popularly known as Gouro Saba of Manipur -- passed away today at his home in Changangei locality of the state capital Imphal at 96.

Laishram Kunjaraj had more than 70 years’ experience in traditional courtyard theatre “Shumang Leela”, as a singer, drum player, etc. He was a man of multiple talents.

He Served in Shumang Leela theatre as a comedian for more than 70 years and has also acted in numerous Manipuri Films and documentaries too. A number of Manipuri artists were guided under his watchful eye. He also won a number of awards. They are as follows: Special Jury Mention Award 2006, Shumang Leela Award 2006, Nongpok Ningthou Award 2010, Cheishu Awardee 2010, Best comedian 1980, 1983, 1989 and 1990, and 2nd best comedian 1986, 1992, 1993 and 1995.
