AGARTALA: Lok Janshakti Party chief Rupam Kar has been arrested by the police for cheating and forgery people on Tuesday after a trail of fake documents were submitted by one of his clients in order to open a foreign liquor shop in the West district.

 

According to report, he allegedly cheated people of a total of Rs 60 lakh.

 

The documents submitted by Tapan Saha to the West district magistrate's office in order to obtain permission to open a foreign liquor shop were found to be forged. Tapan obtained the forged papers from Rupam.

On Tuesday, a Tripura police crime branch team led by deputy superintendent of police Ajay Kumar Das and two other officials, Benu Lal Kar and Ashish Sarkar, raided Rupam's residence in Bardowali, Agartala, and found forged public documents, government rubber stamps, and other incriminating items.

 

Rupam allegedly sold forged job offer documents and international liquor licenses, among other things, police said.

 

Rupam has been charged under Section 468 ( forgery with the intent to defraud) and 471 (dishonestly using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.
