Bishnupur, August 8, 2019:

Manipur Police on Saturday at about 11 pm, the Bishnupur Police Station in Bishnupur district of Manipur received reliable information that some unknown persons were fishing illegally by using the mechanism of 'electrocution' at Thinungei Mamang in the Loktak Lake area.

Accordingly, a team of Bishnupur Police Station rushed to the said area under the supervision of the Addl Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur and conducted search in and around the said area.

During the search, the police saw some shady figures moving in the dark near the lake. Seeing the suspicious figures, the police personnel sprung into action and the three were soon caught. Three unknown persons were detained due to their suspicious nature. After a preliminary investigation, thee trio disclosed their identities: they were identified as Irom Ingoba Singh (42), Laishram Gandhi Singh (28), and Laishram Tomba Singh (52).

On further verification, they disclosed that they caught fish by electrocution with help of batteries and iron nets connected with wire. Hence, they were arrested at 1:10 am on 3 August from the very spot with the items.

A case has been registered at the Bishnupur Police Station in Manipur for further investigation.
