Manipur: 4 KYKL Cadres Apprehended in Thoubal District

Imphal, December 31, 2019:

Manipur police on Tuesday apprehended four cadres of the proscribed militant outfit, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (or KYKL).

Early in the morning today, at around 8.30 am, a team Thoubal police, under the supervision of Troubal SP S. Ibomcha Singh, arrested four cadres of the KYKL.

The apprehended ultras have been identified as Leishangthem Amujao Meite (aged 27), Sadokpam Nongpoknganba (aged 18), Khangembam Athoi Singh@ Naotomba (aged 21), and Mayanglambam Khoiraba alias Achouba (aged 20) s/o Ingocha of Kakching Khunou Awang Leikai, all active members of KYKL from Thoubal Wangmataba near Magic parking.

According to police reports, the cadres had received 45 days of basic military training at the Tanan Training Center in Myanmar under army number 001, 008, 004, and 007, respectively, of 38th batch of KYKL.

It may be mentioned here that the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), meaning "the Organisation to save the revolutionary movement in Manipur" is a Meitei terrorist group formed in January 1994 following merger of the Oken faction of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the Meiraba faction of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and the Ibo Pishak faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).

The 4 cadres have been handed over to Thoubal Police Station for further action.
