Imphal, July 28, 2019:

The Kuki Students’ Organisation General Headquarter (KSO GHQ) has decided to support the 48-hour 'bandh' called from the midnight of July 28 by the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM). The 'bandh' is the first phase of agitation against the government inaction in implementing the charter of demands placed before the government of Manipur on 27th September 2017.

A press release by KSO-HQ said that besides the exclusive charter of demands submitted by the ATSUM, there are common issues raised by ANSAM & KSO.

The statement mentioned that the office of the Chief Secretary constituted a five member committee headed by MH Khan, Additional Chief Secretary as the Chairman.

The committee was authorised to examine the feasibility of implementation of the Charter of Demands raised by the three organisations and submit a report within a month time after due consultation with concerned departments. However, it charged that the state government is delaying in addressing the issues.

The silence of the government over the tribal issues is a direct challenge to democracy and therefore, KSO GHQ as a constituent body of the umbrella organisation has prepared for the agitation from 28th midnight of July 2019.

It is also appealed to all transport associations and public to cooperate during the course of the bandh to avoid any unwanted eventualities, said Secretary Organization KSO- GHQ Hemang Haokip in a press statement.
