Manipur CM announces Newspaper Hawkers will now be covered under CMHT Scheme

Guwahati, January 2, 2018:

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has announced that all accredited newspaper hawkers as well as their families will be covered under the CMHT (Chief Minister Hakshelgi Tengbang) scheme. He made the announcement while attending the annual function of the All Manipur Newspapers Sales’ and Distributors’ Association held at Imphal today. The scheme provides cashless treatment to the poor at the empanelled Network of Hospitals and covers up to Rs. 2 lakh per eligible family every year identified from the Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC).

Speaking at the function, the Chief Minister stated that an insurance scheme would be rolled out for the hawkers soon so that they get some financial assistance when they met with road accidents. The government is also discussing the possible introduction of a pension scheme for members of the Association, he added. During the function, the Chief Minister distributed CMHT cards to some members of the Association. He also felicitated the senior members of the Association.

Talking about the Prime Minister’s visit to the State, Chief Minister Singh forecasted that the Prime Minister is likely to announce the introduction of Guwahati-Silchar-Imphal fuel pipeline and establish an Asian University for higher studies in the State.
