Manipur Drug Dealer Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances

Imphal, September 1, 2019:

A man believed to be a contraband drug dealer was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a a cowshed in Singngat Sub Division of Churachandpur district in Manipur, at around 6:40 am in the morning on Sunday.

As per social media sources, a team of Singngat police, led by a Sub Inspector Biakmuan, thrashed Ginlam on Saturday night. Later, they released him.

It was reported that the the Police team were in civvies when they thrashed Giniam on charges of dealing contraband drugs in the area. The police team had also arrested his two sons, the source said. Early in the morning the next day, the villagers found him hung to death in a cowshed of a Nepali man.

Giniam Munluo, aged 39 years, is survived by his wife Ngainuam Munluo and their children.

Alleging high handedness and denouncing 'police brutality', an irate mob blocked the road and stormed Singngat police station for a few hours. However, the Manipur police managed to bring the situation under control.

It may be mentioned here that drug trafficking continues to be a persistent problem in Manipur.

On August 17, in one of the largest drug seizures in Manipur, the police have seized banned party drugs worth Rs. 400 crore in the international market.
