IMPHAL: The Manipur Government has announced its decision to promote two women footballers from the state on Wednesday (December 9).
Acknowledging their contributions to women's football at the international level, the State Cabinet has decided to promote world-renowned Manipuri female footballers Ngangom Bala Devi and Oinam Bembem, who brought great laurels to the state, to Inspector Rank in the Police Department.
Making the announcement on social media, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh wrote, "Acknowledging their contributions to Women's Football in the international level the State Cabinet has decided to promote world-renown Manipuri female footballers Ngangom Bala Devi and Oinam Bembem, who brought great laurels to the state, to Inspector Rank in Police Department."
Recently, Bala Devi became the first female footballer from the country to score a goal in a professional league in Europe! Devi found the net for Rangers who went on to hammer Motherwell 9-0.
Bala Devi has also featured in the ‘Old Firm Derby’ – which is one of the oldest football rivalries in the world between Rangers FC and Celtic FC.
