IMPHAL: The Manipur state government has decided to sponsor apple farmer Awungshi Shimray Augustina, who successfully harvested apples on commercial scale for the first time in state, to train farmers.
Chief Minister N.Biren Singh took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to make the announcement after a meeting with the farmer from Ukhrul.
"It was very encouraging to meet Ms Awungshi Shimray Augustina from Poi village, Ukhrul District who had successfully harvested apples on commercial scale for the first time in Manipur", he said.

The Ukhrul farmer will provide training to the farmers through Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA).
Augustina has harvested over 150 kgs of apples from her orchard this year.
She left a lucrative job in Gordon Max in Singapore and made her way to her native village Poi in Ukhrul bordering Myanmar to start apple farming. Reportedly, her siblings are assisting her in taking care of the orchard.
